CFD video simulation of high pressure burst
The video shown below is a compressible CFD – Computational fluid dynamics simulation of a high pressure spherical burst in an open cubical space. A time averaged Navier-Stokes equation (RANS) was used to solve the momentum, continuity and energy equations using the K Omega turbulent model. The software used for this simulation is FLUENT a CFD package from ANSYS. Figure 1 shows a low mesh resolution for the studied case prepared prior processing.
CFD or Computational fluid dynamics is an excellent engineering tool for prototyping and scenario testing for fluid flow and energy simulation, using this tool prior manufacturing could save millions of dollars spent on physical testing and hundreds of man hours. This simulation was based on a time step of 0.00001 seconds, the simulation took almost 3 hours to be completed, the total time of the simulation is 0.0029 Seconds.
